Forrest Romero, 1919-1998 & Aline Romero, 1919-2012

Long-time Tulsa Audubon member Aline Romero passed away on October 21, 2012. Aline (as well as her late husband Forrest, who retired from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service), were for many decades the face of Tulsa Audubon. Both were past TAS presidents, and probably held just about every committee position we have at one time or another. Aline also served on the Friends of Oxley board for many years, and was instrumental in its success. In 2006 she left Tulsa for Wynnewood to live with her daughter, and in 2009 moved to a nursing home in Fayetteville near her son Richard.

Vera Aline Bennett Romero, May 28, 1919 - October 21, 2012
Vera Aline Bennett Romero was born on May 28th, 1919 in Thatcher Idaho to Calvin and Mabel Johnson Bennett. She was the second of five children and lived with her family at Meadow Vale Stock Farm. The family moved to Logan Utah when she was in her teens and she followed in the family tradition by attending Utah Agriculture and Business College. There she met Forrest Romero. After graduation she was a teacher at Grantsville, Utah. December 27, 1941 Aline and Forrest Romero were married. They raised five children.

Prior to moving to Wynnewood, she was active in Tulsa Audubon, Oxley Nature center, and many volunteer organizations.

Aline is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Calvin Loree 'Bub' Bennett, sisters, Joyce Bennett and Jean Bruner, Son Walter David Romero and husband Forrest Romero. She is survived by her sister Laverna Drummond Long and sister-in-law Joyce Panter Bennett. Surviving children are Phillip Romero and wife Susan, Richard Romero and wife Regina, Barbara Perry and husband Dean and Beverly Rudiger and husband Chris. Grand-children are Anna Romero, Meredith (and Lance) Looney, Matthew (and Heather) Romero Quinci Romero & Yurgun, Jacqui (and Chris) Walker, Colin Romero, Jenn Rudiger, Amy (and Brandon) Mauldin. Step Grand-child Lena (and Eric) Freienmuth. Great Grand children , Jackson and Austin Looney, Christopher and Bradley Walker, Kevin and William Mauldin. Elliot Romero. Step great grand children Alexis and Kidmon Walker.

Aline will lie in state 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. Her funeral service is 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel where she will be interred following the service.

Aline was also recognized at our our 70th Anniversary meeting in 2005, and is featured in our 70th anniversary Presentation, prior to her moving to Wynnewood. 
January 2006 - Aline Romero moves to Wynnewood
Aline Romero has moved to live with her daughter in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. She will be missed here in Tulsa, but has her binoculars and plans to keep up with the birds there - and says she will keep us posted on migrants! Aline's mailing address is

She and husband Forrest Romero were both president of TAS twice, and Aline has been on every committee at least once - and led the Tuesday Morning Birders for about 12 years. I know she would appreciate hearing from TAS friends.
